Detecting the presence of rising damp and penetrating damp is (sadly) not as simple as reading a result on a moisture gauge. Where damp is affecting a property, it is important to first identify the source before any steps are taken to address the problem. Failing to diagnose the source or taking the advice of an inexperienced surveyor who misdiagnoses the source can lead to significant unnecessary works being carried out which fail to resolve the problem. For instance, where condensation is mistaken for rising damp (a common mistake amongst lesser-experienced surveyors), a homeowner can spend thousands on new damp proof courses and the replacement of wall plaster- none of which resolves the condensation problem, which then returns almost immediately.

They have access to a range of advanced instruments to use during their damp proofing survey such as laser surface temperature gauges, hygrometers and damp meters; with such tools, our surveyors can say for certain whether a home suffers from condensation.
Where condensation is found, we can implement a wide variety of measures to help alleviate the problem. The strategy for eliminating condensation requires a persistent and patient approach, but with our assistance, this can be achieved in almost every case.
The eradication and prevention of condensation normally requires some material change to the home and the lifestyle of the occupants. For instance, where a lack of suitable ventilation is to blame for the presence of condensation, it might also be that the inhabitants can take simple steps to reduce the amount of water vapor they produce. The use of a vented tumble dryer rather than drying clothes indoors is often a great start.

No one likes an endoscope… except us! Endoscopic surveys are a fantastic way of checking the condition of the non-visible or accessible sides of walls and floors during a damp proofing survey. For instance, where the condition of a timber floor must be inspected, but taking up the flooring is not possible or is otherwise prohibitively expensive, our Surveyors can instead drill a small, discreet hole through which they can inspect the floor with an endoscope.
“Is a survey expensive?”
ANSWER: Not at all! Most of our surveys are completely free of charge or obligation. The only surveys we do issue a charge for are those connected with the purchase or sale of a property; for these we levy only a small charge. Additionally, if you ask us to carry out any of the work which we have recommended, we will deduct the survey fee from your final bill!
“How soon can you survey my home?”
ANSWER: We always ensure that we have spare capacity to quickly visit customers in urgent need, but other than that, the majority of our new survey appointments are made within one week of a customer contacting us.
“Do your surveyors work on commission?”
ANSWER: Not at all. Our surveyors are given no incentives other than to provide accurate reports and good service to our customers. When you arrange an appointment with us, you can be confident that the person who inspects your property is doing so as an expert, not as a salesman. We do not hard-sell and we will never pressurise our customers; it is your home and your choice.
