Damp and Timber Report
DAMP SURVEY YORKSHIRE
Allerton Damp Proofing can provide you with an accurate damp and timber report in a free damp survey.
Detecting the presence of rising damp and penetrating damp is (sadly) not as simple as reading a result on a moisture gauge. Where damp is affecting a property, it is important to first identify the source before any steps are taken to address the problem. Failing to diagnose the source or taking the advice of an inexperienced surveyor who misdiagnoses the source can lead to significant unnecessary works being carried out which fail to resolve the problem. For instance, where condensation is mistaken for rising damp (a common mistake amongst lesser-experienced surveyors), a homeowner can spend thousands on new damp proof courses and the replacement of wall plaster- none of which resolves the condensation problem, which then returns almost immediately. Get a professional free damp survey with Allerton Damp Proofing.
Damp Survey Equipment
Our surveyors are unrivalled in their experience and they have access to the latest technological advancements, including advanced MMS2 Electronic Protimeters. As such, when choosing Allerton Damp Proofing to carry out your free damp survey, you can be assured that the damp and timber report which you receive represents a true and accurate assessment of the condition of your home.
TIMBER SURVEY
An appraisal of the condition of internal timber is essential if:
- Damp has been discovered close to the timber
- Infestation of the timber is suspected
- The timber is thought to be rotting
- You are buying or selling a home
In many cases, timber decay or infestation can be hidden and hard to detect, such as when it is occurring beneath a floor or in the roof void of a property. As such, it is essential that you only ask an experienced hand to conduct a timber survey; our CSRT Surveyors are veterans in the field and so you can rest assured that you are in safe hands when you choose Allerton Damp Proofing.
CONDENSATION SURVEY
Our surveyors are experts in the detection and prevention of condensation. They have access to a range of advanced instruments to use during their damp proofing survey such as laser surface temperature gauges, hygrometers and damp meters; with such tools, our surveyors can say for certain whether a home suffers from condensation.
Where condensation is found, we can implement a wide variety of condensation treatment methods to help alleviate the problem. The strategy for eliminating condensation requires a persistent and patient approach, but with our assistance, this can be achieved in almost every case. We’ll provide you with a comprehensive damp and timber report, so you know exactly what your property needs.
The eradication and prevention of condensation normally requires some material change to the home and the lifestyle of the occupants. For instance, where a lack of suitable ventilation is to blame for the presence of condensation, it might also be that the inhabitants can take simple steps to reduce the amount of water vapour they produce. The use of a vented tumble dryer rather than drying clothes indoors is often a great start.

THERMAL IMAGING SURVEY
With access to the latest thermal imaging cameras, our CSRT Surveyors can conduct a range of extremely useful assessments during their damp proofing survey. This allow us to create a comprehensive damp and timber report with information such as:
- The identification of cold spots or inadequately-insulated sections of wall in the home
- The detection of leaking pipework
- Advanced diagnosis of damp and condensation issues
- The detection of problems and blockages in radiators and heating systems, including under floor heating
- The identification of leaks in flat roofs
- The detection of saturated masonry
- The detection of air escaping the property
As you can see, thermal imaging is a great way to collect a whole host of information about a property during a damp proofing survey, without having to disturb the decoration. ENDOSCOPIC SURVEY
No one likes an endoscope… except us! Endoscopic surveys are a fantastic way of checking the condition of the non-visible or accessible sides of walls and floors during a free damp survey. For instance, where the condition of a timber floor must be inspected, but taking up the flooring is not possible or is otherwise prohibitively expensive, our Surveyors can instead drill a small, discreet hole through which they can inspect the floor with an endoscope. These allow us to put together a full damp and timber report for you.
FAQs
“Is a damp survey expensive?”
ANSWER: Not at all! Most of our damp proofing surveys are completely free of charge and no obligation. The only surveys we do issue a charge for are those connected with the purchase or sale of a property; for these we levy only a small cost. You can get a free damp survey. Not only that, if you ask us to carry out any of the work which we have recommended, we will even deduct the usual survey fee from your final bill!
“How soon can you survey my home?”
ANSWER: We always ensure that we have spare capacity to quickly visit customers in urgent need, but other than that, the majority of our new survey appointments are made within one week of a customer contacting us.
“Do your surveyors work on commission?”
ANSWER: Not at all. Our surveyors are given no incentives other than to provide accurate reports and good service to our customers. When you arrange an appointment with us, you can be confident that the person who inspects your property is doing so as an expert, not as a salesman. We do not hard-sell and we will never pressurise our customers; it is your home and your choice.
